  • 1.  ACA question

    Posted 03-10-2014 03:23 PM
We have a member who offers vocational workshops and they have around 300 individuals whom they support and who receive a paycheck for their services. Many of these individuals work at the 30 hour or more mark. Given that they would meet the IRS definition of an employee, they are surmising that that they would need to offer them health coverage and that they  would essentially lose their medical assistance coverage. Is this a correct assumption?

    Dear Mel:

Your assumption may be incorrect.  If an individual currently has healthcare coverage through the MEDICAID entity in your state then they do not need another healthcare plan.  If they do not have healthcare coverage then your assumption maybe correct. Your member should consult with representatives from his/her company's current healthcare insurance carrier.
