    Good Morning,

We are looking to update our social media policy.  We are looking for thoughts on the people that we support through services "friending" staff on social media.  Currently, staff are not allowed to "friend" people that we support on social media.  There was a discussion on the pros and cons of this policy.  I am interested if anyone allows staff to connect with the people that you support on social media and how that is working out and if you have a policy specific to that.

    Thank you!

Hello! We definitely have a Social Media Policy but it does not address this issue. It talks about how we expect staff to conduct themselves when they are engaged with any form of media. It addresses HIPAA -related requirements, conflict of interest, respectful language and so forth. As so more and more community inclusion is occurring, we are seeing more and more staff and people we support engaged in the same community clubs, organizations and activities where members of such are communicating with other members of their respective groups....either by facebook, email, zoom, or other ways. This is a tough one!! Bonnie
