ANCOR's 2011 Conference: Leading Cultures of Innovation and Advocacy

Starts:  Jun 5, 2011 12:00 AM (ET)
Ends:  Jun 8, 2011 12:00 AM (ET)

What's new here?

For 2011, ANCOR is combining the Management Practices Conference (traditionally held in the spring) and the Governmental Activities Seminar (traditionally held in the fall) into one solution-packed event.  The content is based on your feedback to the 2010 Member Engagement Survey.  We're delivering the content you told us you wanted, to focus on model practices, tangible solutions, leadership development and advocacy.

What are the benefits?

There are at least two big benefits.

First, we're delivering the information you've asked for to help you improve your business, incorporate useful new technology, support sustainability, and better support the individuals you serve.

Second, by offering essentially two conferences in one, we're saving you time and money. One trip to Washington, one hotel stay, three and a half days packed with informative, interactive sessions, the opportunity to network and collaborate with your peers, and time to visit, educate and advocate with your representatives in Congress.

The conference is 3 ½ days?

The conference begins the afternoon of Sunday, June 5 and continues through Tuesday, June 7.  We're recommending that participants schedule their visits to Capitol Hill on Wednesday, June 8.  We hope to blanket the Hill that day for maximum effect.

Explain the conference theme: Leading Cultures of Innovation and Advocacy.

The theme for 2010, ANCOR's 40th anniversary year, has been Celebrating the Past ~ Shaping the Future.  We've spent the past year remembering and honoring the incredible journey that brought us from 1970 to the present and preparing to take the initiative as we position for and help shape the future of supports and services delivery.

ANCOR's 2011 Conference more directly addresses the imperative that we shape our own destiny by giving providers the tools and solutions they will need to create and lead innovative organizations and shape the future for their organizations and the individuals they serve.

Participants in the conference will hear from experts on a range of subjects who will share their ideas, tangible solutions, and show you how to implement what you've learned when you return to your organization.

What can you tell us about the conference content?

The sessions will give you what you told us you want: solutions.  We're going to show you a path from where you are now to providing model supports and services, and how you can become more effective advocates.

The conference will offer sessions in three major themes:

  • LEADERSHIP: Find out how agencies are adjusting their service models in tough economic times. Learn how leading agencies demonstrate increased value to their staff and individuals supported through health and wellness programs. Take away tools for improving the bottom line while demonstrating increased appreciation for each person's contribution.

  • ADVOCACY: Learn how to put your organization on the path to become its MOST influential. Get information from Washington, D.C. decision and policy makers to inform your activities in Washington and at home. Return with ideas that transform your organization into a committed force that effects change and create a better social, political, and economic environment for all. Meet with your members of Congress on June 8th-tell them about issues that effect providers, Direct Support Professionals, and the individuals you support and their families.

  • INNOVATION:  ANCOR members will come together and think critically about issues facing providers. Find out how some supported individuals are obtaining greater independence and satisfaction through technology - and how agencies are affording new technologies.  Leave with ideas for increasing funding options and expanding your resources through world wide contacts.

Plus, we'll have opportunities for engaging presenters and other participants online before, during and after the conference.

Who should attend?

CEOs, Executive Directors, CFOs, managers and any individuals in your organization responsible for service and supports programs and activities, including advocacy and outreach.  Individuals in your organization whom you are preparing for future leadership roles.

Even staff who are not able to attend the conference should be encouraged to participate in the conversations we'll be hosting electronically on a wide range of topics.
